My new photo gallery

I installed Gallery yesterday. I had found that when I had a lot of related photos to post it was tedious to do them in the photoblog.I'm still not sure on how both the photoblog and the gallery will coexist, but I think that I'm going to use the photoblog to post single cool photos and the gallery for collections of photos.Check out the gallery from the Cruise some of it may be duped from the photoblog, but most of the material is fresh

I got an email this afternoon informing me that my Red Hat training class that is scheduled for next month has been cancelled. It was cancelled because I was the only person enrolled for the class. It was no big deal I was just going to schedule a new class somewhere else.

Homebrew: Ivanovich Imperial Stout

Break out the brew kettle, today was a beautiful day for making beer. Bob an I brewed our first imperial stout and I couldn’t think of a more fitting day to brew it. The style of the imperial stout originated in England. Brewers in the UK exported this style to Russia for the Russian Imperial Court. It just seemed right to make a Russian style beer the day after we got hit with a Russian named hurricaine. So I proudly introduce to you the Son of Ivan; Ivanovich Imperial Stout.

Ivan, Ivan, Ivan

Ivan the terrible, Ivan the wet, Ivan the newsmaker. This is an historic blog post, the rainiest day in Pittsburgh ever. Things aren't too bad around my house our creek is up, but it is working as it’s engineered to work. I didn’t have any problems getting home. Slippery Rock Creek had barely started to go up by the time that I crossed over it.Read more for some pictures of our temporary lake.

Sendmail without DNS part Deux

I spent the past couple of days beating my head against the wall trying to make Sendmail 8.12.10 work with a mail gateway in a DNS-less environment. You may remember that I blogged back in January about how I got it working before.Sendmail 8.12.10 uses the Sendmail Message Submission Program (SMMSP) and it is pretty picky with resolving domain names before sending mail onto the Sendmail MTA.

Call me a Photo Archivist

Finally, I have my photo collection organized, yippee hooray. I’ve been shooting photos for over 4 years now and never put much thought in how to organize them during that time. I had over 7000 photos taking up over 6 gigabytes of space and keeping tabs on them all was starting to become a chore. There are several aspects of photo archiving that are important and I had to change several things and start over a few times before I was happy with how I was going to manage these photos.

The Olympics and Tivo

Tivo has been very useful for transforming some shows from painful into enjoyable, but I have found no show that it helps more than Olympic Broadcasts. NBC is carrying the Olympics on something like 6 or 7 different channels, NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, USA, Bravo, and Telemundo I can recall at the moment. With events airing at all different times there is no way you will find anything other than gymnastics if you were trying to find an event on your own.I set up an Autorecord Wishlist to catch the Olympics no matter the channel or when the program is airing.

Pittsburgh Brewing Company

Yesterday I was given a tour of the Pittsburgh Brewing Company by Brewer Mark Davis. It was really cool to be able to see a brewing operation of that size. Pittsburgh Brewing’s maximum capacity is 1.2 million barrels a year. Thanks Mark for taking the time for the tour.I forgot that the tour was yesterday so I didn't have time to stop home and get my camera, and it's really too bad, I could spend a week in there shooting photographs.
